I recently had a psychological session that was profoundly beneficial, and a significant part of that is due to the exceptional qualities of the psychologist. First and foremost, they are a truly gifted listener. In our conversation, I never felt rushed or that my words were being simply waited out. There was a palpable sense of attentive presence, where they absorbed not just what I was saying, but the feelings and nuances behind it. This created an immediate sense of safety and respect. This was perfectly complemented by their completely non-judgmental stance. I felt free to share thoughts and experiences I might normally withhold, without a single flicker of criticism or disapproval. The environment they cultivated was one of pure acceptance, which is the essential bedrock for honest self-exploration and healing. Furthermore, they proved to be a thoughtful and practical adviser. Their guidance did not come in the form of prescriptive instructions, but rather as insightful reflections, carefully considered questions, and helpful frameworks to view my situation differently. They helped me connect my own dots, offering tools and perspectives that felt tailored and actionable, rather than generic advice. This session was a deeply positive experience. The combination of empathic listening, unconditional acceptance, and insightful guidance provided exactly the kind of supportive space needed for meaningful psychological work. I left feeling heard, validated, and equipped with clearer thinking about my path forward. I have great confidence in their professional approach and highly recommend their services to anyone seeking compassionate and effective support.

    About Karlo Katipunan, RPsy

Hello there, I'm Karlo and I am a Psychologist. It was actually a bit of an accident on how I started to pursue the field of psychology and later on, counseling and therapy. A friend of mine told me about it way back when I didn't even know that it was a course in college. I gave it a try and to be honest, the first couple of years were not that motivating for me. It was the last two years of the course when I started to get a better grip of the nature of the field and actually found myself wanting to engage in it more. When I was exposed to the actual cases, the mental health situation in the country, and the processes on how the field can help people deal with their unique situations, it hit me that this field might be worth pursuing after all. My biggest motivation for trying to support people through counseling is my relentless urge to learn something new in each case that I take. Every new story, fresh perspectives, unique situations, and every conflict people bring is always an opportunity to learn something and improve what we already have. When I am not working, I spend lots of time with my family. I have two young children, who have ample amounts of energy which we usually exhaust from trips, days in the park, and other recreational activities. Personally, I play basketball with friends once a week and squeeze in some walking/jogging sessions whenever time permits. For people considering giving counseling a try, I would offer a space where you can freely express your thoughts, beliefs, values, sorrows, joys, dreams, and everything else in between. I'd offer my time not as an expert who would tell you what to feel and do, but a person who would listen and explore with you through ups and downs in your thoughts and be there alongside you as you tackle each twist and turn of your mental health.

    My Approach to Therapy

Back then, I was one of those students who would be terrified to hear that I was being summoned to the counseling office. It was during the latter years of college when I realized how counseling truly works, both from my counseling subjects and exposure to the work itself. As a practicing counselor today, I try my best to foster a curious, supportive, appreciative, and non-judgmental atmosphere for every individual I get to meet β€” with the idea that every person has the capacity to move from adversity when they are listened to, acknowledged, and supported, and the belief that conversations can alter our thoughts, emotions, and lives in general. More than as a professional or a psychologist, I offer my time as the person I am today to each client I see β€” who would laugh with you, sit with you in doubts and pain, celebrate with you no matter the size of your wins, challenge you when confused, and simply be there with you in times you most need someone.
