Hello! I'm Dr. Nueva Joy A. Perucho, a psychiatrist driven by a deep desire to help people feel seen, heard, and understood. My journey into psychiatry began with my early work as a rural doctor in far-flung areas of the Philippines, where I witnessed how mental health is often overlooked despite its profound impact on people's lives. This experience inspired me to specialize in psychiatry so I could create safe spaces for stories, struggles, and hope. My motivation is simple but powerful: I want to help people reclaim their sense of self, heal from pain, and find ways to move forward even when life feels heavy. I believe that every person deserves compassionate care and a safe space to make sense of their thoughts and feelings. My aspiration is to keep growing—not only as a psychiatrist, but also as a researcher, teacher, and person—so I can continue bridging mental health care to communities that need it most and guide people toward lives of more clarity and courage. Outside of work, I enjoy quiet mornings with a good book, learning new things, and spending meaningful time with my family. I believe that healing begins with feeling truly heard and understood. My role is to walk alongside you, to help you make sense of what you're going through, and to find ways forward that feel realistic and meaningful for you. In my work, I combine medical knowledge with genuine curiosity and compassion. I listen deeply, ask questions that invite reflection, and respect your pace. While medication can be helpful, I believe real healing also comes from honest conversations, exploring patterns, and building skills to cope and grow. I know that seeing a psychiatrist can sometimes feel intimidating, especially if past experiences left you feeling dismissed or misunderstood. With me, you will not be reduced to a label or a prescription. Above all, I want our sessions to be a space where you feel safe to be your authentic self, messy parts and all. My goal is to help you connect with your resilience, remind you that it is okay to ask for help, and show you that change is possible. Together, we will work toward clarity, balance, and a sense of hope that feels genuine and within reach.
