    Initial Psychiatric Consult Customer

    Today

I’m glad I found the Saya app and booked an initial consultation with Dr. Mitz Serofia. I’ve worked with other mental health professionals before and was also seeking a second opinion regarding a previous diagnosis. I really appreciated Dr. Mitz’s straightforward and in-depth approach. We went through assessments, which made the consultation feel focused and covered everything we needed. I felt a huge sense of relief after the first session and looking forward to the next one.

He made our sessions feel easy and light, which helped me open up without feeling judged or rushed. I didn’t feel bad sharing even the deepest and most difficult parts of my story. He created a safe space where I felt heard, understood, and genuinely supported.

    About Dr. Mitz Serofia

I'm Dr. Mitz Serofia, a psychiatrist deeply drawn to the stories behind people's struggles—the invisible injuries that shape how we see ourselves and the world. Psychiatry felt like the right path because it offered a rare space where science, compassion, and context come together. Through this field, I've found a way to understand not just the brain, but the person behind it. At the heart of my work is a simple belief: no one should have to suffer in silence. I've witnessed how powerful it can be when someone feels truly seen and heard—whether it's a young person facing trauma or a family navigating the uncertainty of a diagnosis. My goal is always to restore clarity and dignity to people's lives, especially in places where mental health care has long been overlooked. Outside of work, I enjoy quiet moments—running, working out, playing badminton, or catching up on Netflix. I also create spaces for youth storytelling through Project Kaleidoscope, and when I can, I travel to unwind and learn from new environments. I'm especially passionate about improving access to mental health care in low-resource settings. Whether through teaching, program design, or research, I aspire to help shape systems that deliver care with both cultural sensitivity and sustainability. Above all, I bring both curiosity and conviction to this work. I don't take your trust lightly. I strive to meet each person with humility, empathy, and clinical rigor—because psychiatry isn't just what I do, it's how I hope to serve.

    My Approach to Psychiatric Care

At the core of my psychiatric practice is a deep respect for the person behind the diagnosis. I believe that every individual brings with them a unique story shaped by their biology, relationships, culture, and lived experiences. My role is not to see with a fixed lens, but to listen closely—without judgment—and understand their reality as they see it. Empathic, nonjudgmental listening is the foundation of how I engage with patients. Many who seek psychiatric care carry a history of being misunderstood, dismissed, or pathologized. I strive to create a space where people feel safe to speak honestly about their fears, hopes, and uncertainties. I approach each encounter with humility and curiosity, recognizing that trust takes time, and that healing often begins with being truly heard. I also believe strongly in shared decision-making. Psychiatric care should not be something done to someone, but rather something built with them. I offer guidance grounded in science and clinical experience, but always in a way that respects a patient's values, preferences, and autonomy. We work together to explore options—whether pharmacologic, psychotherapeutic, or psychosocial—and co-create a plan that feels both feasible and meaningful. Ultimately, my goal is to help individuals make sense of their experiences, reclaim agency in their lives, and move toward wellness on their own terms. I see psychiatric care as a partnership—and I am committed to walking alongside my patients with openness, clarity, and compassion.
